SC against interim order

The Supreme Court has decided against issuing an interim order in a petition filed challenging the election of NCP leader Agni Prasad Sapkota as the Speaker of the Federal Parliament. A single bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla handed down the order after a hearing on the petition concluded today.

The hearing had begun on Monday, based on the petition filed by advocate Dinesh Tripathi, who sought an interim order to stop Sapkota from being elected the Speaker. The apex court has argued that since Sapkota was already elected and also assumed his office, interim order was not required.

In the petition, advocate Tripathi had argued that Sapkota should not be elected the speaker as he is accused of murdering Arjun Lama of Kavre during the armed conflict.
