Birendranagar declared riot-hit zone

Karnali State headquarters Birendranagar has been declared a riot-hit area up to tomorrow morning.

The District Administration Office Surkhet has declared Ilam in the east of Birendranagar municipality, Wangesim in the west, Kapase barrack in the north and up to the distance of 500 metres in the south as the riot-hit zone, effective from 6:30 pm this evening.

In accordance with the Local Administration Act (Amendment)-2028’s Clause 6, the DAO has issued the order preventing people from moving, gathering and carrying out any works in the riot-hit area.

Chief District Officer of Surkhet Basanta Adhikari said the area was declared riot-hit area to avoid any potential untoward incidents of vandalism, arson and loss of properties from irate locals following the death of a youth in the tipper accident this morning.

The situation turned tense when a tipper (Bhe 1 Kha 2242) ran over Kehsar Bahadur Singh, 21, of Mahawai rural municipality-3, Simkhet nearby Birendranagar municipality-3, Surkhet Gautamchowk at 8.30 am.

The declaration of riot-hit area will remain up to 6.00 am on Wednesday, said CDO Adhikari.
