‘Community should continue efforts to enliven culture’

Chief Information Commissioner of National Information Commission (NIC) Mahendra Man Gurung urged the indigenous communities to continually engage their efforts for enlivening their language, culture and history.

In his address to the 19th anniversary of Tamu Cultural Academy Nepal in Pokhara on Saturday, he said the communities should keep up their efforts to preserve culture which may be endangered in course of the so-called development.

It is the duty and responsibility of all sides to protect and preserve education, language, culture and customs, he said, lauding the contributions of the Academy in advancing educational, cultural and social development.

He said the NIC would receive complaint if the public agencies did not entertain citizen’s application for information.

Academy Chairperson Chitra Bahadur Guruung said the Academy has set up scholarship fund by raising resources from people at home and abroad. "The organization is working to incentivize the new generation of Tamu community in education sector.

As many as 91 children from different 17 districts are pursuing their education on Academy-sponsored scholarship.

On the occasion, Captain Min Bahadur Tamu Memorial Award was presented to singer Dhan Bahadur Gurung. Likewise, Dhan Bahadur Tamu Memorial Award was provided to literary figure Tej Bahadur Gurung while Lalshova Outstanding Motehr Award was given away to Belsuwa Tamu and Parbati Tamu Memorial Award to Manbir Tamu.
