Mahat calls for accepting beneficial foreign assistance

Nepali Congress joint general secretary and former minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said a foreign aid and assistance capable of addressing the nation’s needs and interest should be accepted.

In his address to a press meet organised by the Nepal Press Union (NPU) Kaski here today, the leader from the main opposition party, claimed the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MMC), the assistance proposed by the US for Nepal, was capable of serving the interests of Nepal and Nepali that’s why the party had supported it.

Stating how we become able to secure the nation’s necessities and interest from the bilateral relations is the main theme of the nation’s foreign policy, he said, "The political system of any country is not our concern. It is the matter of that particular country. Our concern is the nature of our bilateral relations with other countries".

He took time to allege that national assets were being handed to the ‘Yeti Group’ one after another in a nontransparent way. According to him, the party is committed to protesting the government’s wrong deeds, however, there will be support for good ones.

As he said, there is an agreement to organize the party’s upcoming general convention on the scheduled date (February next year).
