Court will ensure justice to those affected from news, Minister Basnkota says

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Banskota, has expressed the view that though Press Council Nepal has been playing the role of facilitator, the court should give justice to those who have become victim due to news.

Minister Banskota said so during the clause-wise discussion on Media Council Bill-2075 BS at the Legislation Management Committee of the National Assembly.

Saying the Council won’t be able to provide compensation, he opined, "The Court should do it to ensure justice to the victims."

The Communications Minister pointed out the need of settling the tough issues from the legal process to maintain relevance of journalism.

He opined, "The court settles the issues without any prejudice. So the court’s verdict is always in favour of victim and will not be loss to anyone."

He argued, "Laws should be formulated where the court will deliver verdict regarding compensation to the victims."
