(to be disseminated on Jan 16)

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has appealed to all for the preparedness in view of the natural disaster like earthquake. In a message given on the occasion of the 22nd National Earthquake Safety Day today, PM Oli wished the Earthquake Safety Day inspired everyone to be able to cope up the disasters.

"Not only the enabling of state structures but also the capacity building of social life needs to be addressed for disaster preparedness," the PM stressed, adding that government has introduced the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act for reducing risks caused by the disaster.

Recalling the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake, PM Oli viewed Nepal’s experience and expertise on post-quake reconstruction would not be erased from memory. Government is preparing the atmosphere that enables people to reduce risks caused by the earthquake. The campaign of raising safe settlements and reconstructions of schools, houses and heritages has nearly finalized. The reconstruction begun from the destruction has now drawn a happy picture. "It is a good signal that we’re near the finalization of reconstruction drive. We addressed through the works that the people disheartened with devastating earthquake finally restored their joy."

Moreover, the PM reminded the reconstruction carried out in Bara and Parsa districts following the storm that caused huge loss of lives and properties.

The reconstruction drive has made headway to success, he further argued, adding that those in the unsafe places are relocated to safer ones.

According to PM Oli, not only for those affected with earthquake, but for entire population, necessary human resources, structures and plans are put in place for the disaster preparedness and management at local and State levels as well.
