Bagmati State Chief Minister Poudel’s greetings on Maghe Sankranti

Chief Minister of Bagmati State, Dormani Poudel has said in Nepal there is a culture of one community respecting the festivals of the other community.

Chief Minister Poudel stated this in a message of best wishes he gave on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti today.

In the message, Chief Minister Poudel extended best wishes for the good health, happiness, peace, prosperity and continued progress of all Nepali sisters and brothers within the country and abroad.

"Nepal is a country characterized by unity in diversity. It is s multi-ethnic, multi-linguistic, multi-religious and multi-cultural society. Maghe Sankranti is one of the major festivals of Nepalis also known as Makar Sankranti, Maghi etc. It is found that all communities in the country celebrate Maghe Sankranti," reads the Chief Minister’s message.

In the Tarai districts, the Miathili community marks Maghe Sankranti as the Tila Sankranti festival. People in Tarai partake khichadi and other delicacies on this day.

The Tharu people celebrate it as Maghi festival. It is their greatest festival full of unique culture and traditions.

"Every festival celebrated culturally in Nepal carries special significance. The tradition of one community revering the festival celebrated by another community is old. We should emulate such tradition for a long time in future as well. I extend hearty best wishes to all the citizens of Bagmati State on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti," reads the message.
