Upper House members riled at ministries

Members of the Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee of the National Assembly, the upper house of the federal parliament, have complained that the ministries concerned have failed to obey the committee’s directives issued at different times.

A majority of the lawmakers speaking in the committee’s meeting today expressed dismay saying the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Urban Development, among the ministries, have snubbed the committee by not implementing its directives given to them at various times.

They called for the committee itself to monitor whether or not its directives to the ministries have been implemented so far.

Committee member Dinanath Sharma demanded that the minister and the secretary of the ministry concerned should be called to the committee’s meeting to check whether the committee’s directives have been executed.

Lawmaker Bimala Rai Poudel stressed on monitoring the implementation of the committee’s directives as well as completion of the market monitoring.

Kali Bahadur Malla and Khim Kumar BK spoke of the need of making the surprise market monitoring effective.

Lawmaker Kamala kumara Oli expressed worry over the increasing problems in the transport sector in recent days and demanded that the committee should issue instructions to the ministry after carrying out monitoring for resolving the problem.

Mahesh Kumar Mahara, Bhairab Sundar Shrestha, Mukta Kumari Yadav, Kabita Bogati, among the lawmakers wondered why the ministries were not obeying the instructions of the committee.

Committee president Taradevi Bhatta said explanation would be sought from the ministries concerned regarding the progress on implementation of the committee’s directives.
