Government working to develop new cities: Minister of State Manandhar

Minister of State for Urban Development Rambir Manandhar has said the government is involved in building new cities.

Addressing the 17th annual general meeting of Mheipi Conservation and Management Committee here today, he said the government was working to develop new cities in the areas close to the Kathmandu valley.

"The work on preparing DPR is underway for building new cities not within the Valley but outside of it," he added.

Stating the government was working to systematize the Bagmati and Dhobikhola corridor roads within the Valley, the Minister of State said the systematic development of Kathmandu Valley could not be achieved unless the Bagmati River was well-managed.

He said the development and construction works could not be moved ahead as per the expectation of the people as the government had to bring many laws and Acts over the last few years.

Minister of State Manandhar also urged all atakeholders to bring in maximum number of tourists in the Kathmandu Valley, a place rich in historical and cultural heritages, during the Visit Nepal Year.

Former Minister Ram Kumar Shrestha called for unity among all sides for the development of Mheipi area.

Committee president Krishna Man Shrestha said construction of a path leading to the Mheipi temple was the priority at present. He said Rs 5 million that the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has allocated for this purpose was not adequate.
