Umakunda is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Ramechhap district, Province No. 3 of Nepal. Umakunda has total 7 wards, which are scattered across 452 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Umakunda Rural Municipality had total population of 17,601.

Wardwise Population and Households

As per 2011 population census, Umakunda Rural Municipality had total 17,601 population with 8,243 males and 9,358 females. Out of total wards, ward number 2 had the largest population 3,144, while ward number 6 had least number of population with 3,144.

In terms of age, the largest population in Umakunda Rural Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 2,524. Gender wise, there were 1,177 males and 1,347 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 391 population, which consistes of 190 males and 201 females. Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (1,177), between 5 and 9 (1,096), between 15 and 19 (1,049), below 4 (773), and between 20 and 24 (580), with total population of 4,675. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (190), between 65 and 69 (209), above 75 (258),between 60 and 64 (281), and between 55 and 59 (322), with total population of 1,260. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 10 and 14 (1,347), between 15 and 19 (1,221), between 5 and 9 (1,005), between 20 and 24 (836), and below 4 (754), with total population of 5,163. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (201), above 75 (226), between 65 and 69 (241),between 55 and 59 (319), and between 60 and 64 (326), with total population of 1,313.

The population with age-group above 75 had male to female ratio of 1.14, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 20 to 24 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.69. The age-groups above 75, 5 to 9, below 4, 55 to 59 had majority of male population while age-groups 50 to 54, 70 to 74, 10 to 14, 65 to 69, 15 to 19, 60 to 64, 45 to 49, 30 to 34, 40 to 44, 35 to 39, 25 to 29, 20 to 24 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 57.52 % (10,124 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 34.95 % with total number of 6,152. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 7.53 % with total number of 1,325. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 42.48 with total number of 7,477

There were 4,536 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 1,527. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 337 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

Grade 1-12 Students & Schools

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 6,094 in Umakunda Rural Municipality with 2,946 (48.34%) of males and 3,148 (51.66%) females. There were total 53 schools. In average, 115 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Umakunda Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Chhetri caste with total population of 5,981. There were as little as Khawas caste with population of as little as 11 in total. People of several other castes who live in Umakunda are Sunuwar, Sherpa, Tamang, Newar, Kami, Damai/Dholi, Brahmin - Hill, Sarki, Magar, Gharti/Bhujel, Thami, Rai, Badi, Jirel, Khawas, Terai Others, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Umakunda Rural Municipality are Chhetri (5,981), Sunuwar (3,632), Sherpa (2,136), Tamang (1,693) and Newar (1,320) with total population of 14,762, which forms 83.87 percent out of total population of 17,601 in Umakunda Rural Municipality.

Household Foundation

Out of total 3869 households in Umakunda Rural Municipality, there were 3,762 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 17 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 0 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 58houses were founded on wood.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 139 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 325 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 2,828 houses had roof of tile, 8 houses had RCC roofs, 510 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 1,065 out of 3,869 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 1,575 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 1,204 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

Utilities

In Umakunda Rural Municipality, there were total 3,555 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 2 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 3 houses had covered well while 48 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. With reference to source of fuel, 3,820 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 6 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 13 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (3), bio-gas (0), fuel electricity (1), etc.

Same as, total 2,339 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 807, while 613 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.60.

Facilities

out of 3,869 households in Umakunda Rural Municipality, 631 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 3,115 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Radio was used by the maximum households with total users of 2,879, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 1,946.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 711 establishments in Umakunda Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 2,474 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 1,374 and female engagement of 1,100 persons.In every business, there were an average of 3.48 people engaged with average males are 1.93 and females are 1.55.
