Tumwewa is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Panchthar district, Province No. 1 of Nepal. Tumwewa has total 5 wards, which are scattered across 117 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Tumwewa Rural Municipality had total population of 13,419.

As of 2011, 1,302 population in Tumwewa Rural Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 9.70 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 1,259, which equals to 20.10 percent of total 6,265 males. Same as, 43 females were absent, which equals to 0.60 percent of 7,154 females. At least one member of 1,061 (37.69 percent) households were absent.

Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (1,042), between 5 and 9 (839), between 15 and 19 (801), below 4 (679), and between 20 and 24 (406), with total population of 3,767. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (106), between 65 and 69 (156), above 75 (160),between 60 and 64 (182), and between 30 and 34 (210), with total population of 814. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 10 and 14 (993), between 15 and 19 (937), between 5 and 9 (851), between 20 and 24 (636), and below 4 (586), with total population of 4,003. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (126), above 75 (126), between 65 and 69 (158),between 55 and 59 (199), and between 60 and 64 (203), with total population of 812.

The population with age-group above 75 had male to female ratio of 1.27, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 30 to 34 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.54. The age-groups above 75, below 4, 55 to 59, 50 to 54, 10 to 14 had majority of male population while age-groups 5 to 9, 65 to 69, 60 to 64, 45 to 49, 15 to 19, 70 to 74, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 20 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 56.61 % (7,597 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 37.19 % with total number of 4,990. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 6.20 % with total number of 832. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 43.39 with total number of 5,822

There were 3,624 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 1,265. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 349 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 3,972 in Tumwewa Rural Municipality with 1,932 (48.64%) of males and 2,040 (51.36%) females. There were total 43 schools. In average, 92 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Tumwewa Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Limbu caste with total population of 4,223. There were as little as Gharti/Bhujel caste with population of as little as 28 in total. People of several other castes who live in Tumwewa are Chhetri, Rai, Tamang, Yakkha, Magar, Kami, Damai/Dholi, Newar, Brahmin - Hill, Sarki, Sunuwar, Gharti/Bhujel, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Tumwewa Rural Municipality are Limbu (4,223), Chhetri (3,189), Rai (2,138), Tamang (1,461) and Yakkha (641) with total population of 11,652, which forms 86.83 percent out of total population of 13,419 in Tumwewa Rural Municipality.

Out of total population of 13,419, there were total 335 (2.50%) disabled persons in Tumwewa Rural Municipality with 163 (48.66%) males and 172 (51.34%) females. The physically disabled persons were 101, while mentally disabled people were 19 and intellectually disabled were 16.

Similarly, there were 43 people who were blind and 56 people were deaf, while 5 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 45 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 50 people had multiple disabilities.

Out of total 2815 households in Tumwewa Rural Municipality, there were 2,579 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 7 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 0 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 188houses were founded on wood.

With respect to wall of the houses, 2,533 houses were mud bonded, 28 houses were cement bonded, 7 houses were wood planks bonded, 232 houses were bamboo bonded and 1 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 2,137 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 646 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 16 houses had roof of tile, 7 houses had RCC roofs, 2 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 927 out of 2,815 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 215 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 1,669 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

In Tumwewa Rural Municipality, there were total 961 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 3 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 20 houses had covered well while 456 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. Other resources of water facilities were spout water (1114) and river stream (256), which were reported of the household's source of water.

With reference to source of fuel, 2,752 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 17 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 8 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (25), bio-gas (7), fuel electricity (1), etc.

Same as, total 28 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 931, while 1,395 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.01.

out of 2,815 households in Tumwewa Rural Municipality, 660 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 2,148 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Radio was used by the maximum households with total users of 1,834, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 1,490.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 306 establishments in Tumwewa Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 634 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 353 and female engagement of 281 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.07 people engaged with average males are 1.15 and females are 0.92. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.26, which means as many as 1.26 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
