In 2017 election of Susta Rural Municipality (Nawalparasi_W district), candidate Ram Prasad Pandeya of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,511 (33.52%) votes out of total votes of 10,473 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Hasandin Shesh of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,952 (21.11%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 4,010 (19.14) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Indra Kumari Tharuni of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,565 (38.91%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Bimala Upadhyay of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,835 (22.28%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 2,761 (15.07) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 129 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 78 (60.47%) males and 51 (39.53%) females. Moreover, there were total 27 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards. Same as, total 46 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 22 females and 23 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
