Sunkoshi is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Okhaldhunga district, Province No. 1 of Nepal. Sunkoshi has total 10 wards, which are scattered across 144 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Sunkoshi Rural Municipality had total population of 18,550.

As of 2011, 1,717 population in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 9.26 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 1,574, which equals to 18.43 percent of total 8,541 males. Same as, 143 females were absent, which equals to 1.43 percent of 10,009 females. At least one member of 1,193 (29.92 percent) households were absent.

As illustrated in the charts, the ratio of absentee population was 9.80, while male to female absentee population ratio was 11.01. Same as, the household ratio of present vs. absent population was 2.34.

In terms of age, the largest population in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 2,815. Gender wise, there were 1,412 males and 1,403 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 405 population, which consistes of 194 males and 211 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 10 and 14 (2,815), between 5 and 9 (2,266), between 15 and 19 (2,262), below 4 (1,787), between 20 and 24 (1,380) with total population of 10,510. In contrast, bottom 5 least populated age groups were between 70 and 74 (405), between 65 and 69 (459), above 75 (492), between 55 and 59 (630), and between 60 and 64 (636) with total population of 2,622. The median age-group of total population falls between 45 and 49 and between 35 and 39 with average population of 889.

Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (1,412), between 5 and 9 (1,156), between 15 and 19 (995), below 4 (908), and between 20 and 24 (490), with total population of 4,961. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (194), above 75 (226), between 65 and 69 (234),between 60 and 64 (293), and between 55 and 59 (307), with total population of 1,254. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 10 and 14 (1,403), between 15 and 19 (1,267), between 5 and 9 (1,110), between 20 and 24 (890), and below 4 (879), with total population of 5,549. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (211), between 65 and 69 (225), above 75 (266),between 55 and 59 (323), and between 60 and 64 (343), with total population of 1,368.

The population with age-group 5 to 9 had male to female ratio of 1.04, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 20 to 24 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.55. The age-groups 5 to 9, 65 to 69, below 4, 10 to 14 had majority of male population while age-groups 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 70 to 74, 60 to 64, above 75, 45 to 49, 40 to 44, 15 to 19, 35 to 39, 30 to 34, 25 to 29, 20 to 24 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 55.67 % (10,326 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 37.02 % with total number of 6,868. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 7.31 % with total number of 1,356. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 44.33 with total number of 8,224

There were 4,811 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 1,787. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 371 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 5,686 in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality with 2,766 (48.65%) of males and 2,920 (51.35%) females. There were total 43 schools. In average, 132 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Sunkoshi Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Chhetri caste with total population of 4,942. There were as little as Koiri/Kushwaha caste with population of as little as 12 in total. People of several other castes who live in Sunkoshi are Tamang, Brahmin - Hill, Magar, Rai, Newar, Kami, Damai/Dholi, Sunuwar, Sarki, Gharti/Bhujel, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Majhi, Gurung, Dalit Others, Dhimal, Koiri/Kushwaha, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality are Chhetri (4,942), Tamang (3,551), Brahmin - Hill (2,348), Magar (2,132) and Rai (1,981) with total population of 14,954, which forms 80.61 percent out of total population of 18,550 in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality.

Out of total population of 18,550, there were total 468 (2.52%) disabled persons in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality with 261 (55.77%) males and 207 (44.23%) females. The physically disabled persons were 181, while mentally disabled people were 21 and intellectually disabled were 11.

Similarly, there were 90 people who were blind and 55 people were deaf, while 8 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 67 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 35 people had multiple disabilities.

Out of total 3987 households in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality, there were 3,932 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 5 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 0 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 21houses were founded on wood.

With respect to wall of the houses, 3,908 houses were mud bonded, 13 houses were cement bonded, 6 houses were wood planks bonded, 20 houses were bamboo bonded and 10 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 2,891 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 356 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 700 houses had roof of tile, 6 houses had RCC roofs, 1 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 1,744 out of 3,987 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 437 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 1,782 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

In Sunkoshi Rural Municipality, there were total 3,329 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 5 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 87 houses had covered well while 336 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. Other resources of water facilities were spout water (114) and river stream (84), which were reported of the household's source of water.

With reference to source of fuel, 3,948 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 6 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 5 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (5), bio-gas (0), fuel electricity (0), etc.

Same as, total 2,050 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 1,006, while 600 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.51.

out of 3,987 households in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality, 979 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 2,906 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Radio was used by the maximum households with total users of 2,542, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 2,083.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 422 establishments in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 1,340 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 632 and female engagement of 708 persons.In every business, there were an average of 3.18 people engaged with average males are 1.50 and females are 1.68. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 0.89, which means as many as 0.89 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
