In 2017 election of Sunarya Rural Municipality (Baitadi district), candidate Bir Bahadur Bista of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,361 (37.95%) votes out of total votes of 6,222 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Narendra Bahadur Bista of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 2,276 (26.52%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,585 (12.74) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Lila Kumari Bista of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,304 (37.93%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Bhagrathi Bohara of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,187 (26.10%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,584 (13.04) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 174 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 105 (60.34%) males and 69 (39.66%) females. Moreover, there were total 37 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 65 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 32 females and 30 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
