In 2017 election of Soru Rural Municipality (Mugu district), candidate Lok Bahadur Shahi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,854 (36.79%) votes out of total votes of 5,039 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Dharma Bahadur Shahi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 1,821 (26.42%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,364 (13.53) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Rajyalaxmi Malla of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,885 (38.41%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Rupkarna Shahi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,545 (22.75%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,477 (15.05) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 172 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 105 (61.05%) males and 67 (38.95%) females. Moreover, there were total 34 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 67 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 33 females and 31 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
