Sonma Rural Municipality (Mahottari) Election Results 2017
In 2017 election of Sonma Rural Municipality (Mahottari district), candidate Raj Kumar Yadav of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 4,132 (37.19%) votes out of total votes of 11,110 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Nawal Kishor Raya Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,401 (15.75%) of votes. The rest of 11 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 4,577 (20.60) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Bibha Devi Shah of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 4,321 (35.83%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Pushpa Kumari Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,244 (19.80%) of votes and came in second position. Other 9 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,496 (18.64) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 263 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 168 (63.88%) males and 95 (36.12%) females. Moreover, there were total 63 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 89 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 43 females and 44 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
