In 2017 election of Shuklaphanta Municipality (Kanchanpur district), candidate Dil Bahadur Air of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,432 (39.26%) votes out of total votes of 16,385 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ran Bahadur Mahara of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 5,429 (23.79%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,524 (13.81) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Tulasi Devi Hamal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,293 (33.09%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Dharma Bista of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,210 (24.47%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 5,494 (17.17) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 274 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 162 (59.12%) males and 112 (40.88%) females. Moreover, there were total 59 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 98 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 51 females and 48 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
