In 2017 election of Shuklagandaki Municipality (Tanahun district), candidate Kishan Gurung of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 9,424 (50.59%) votes out of total votes of 18,629 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ram Chandra Upadhyay of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 8,705 (31.03%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 500 (1.34) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sabita Rasaili of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 8,983 (53.19%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Sarbada Khanal of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 7,436 (28.74%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 471 (1.39) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 216 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 137 (63.43%) males and 79 (36.57%) females. Moreover, there were total 51 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 79 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 36 females and 33 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
