In 2017 election of Shitaganga Municipality (Arghakhanchi district), candidate Surya Prasad Adhikari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,677 (54.40%) votes out of total votes of 15,950 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Basanta Kumar Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 6,990 (28.38%) of votes. The rest of 5 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 283 (0.89) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Tika Bahadur Resmi Magar of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 7,128 (49.41%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Gita Bhat of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 7,033 (32.63%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 264 (0.92) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 233 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 148 (63.52%) males and 85 (36.48%) females. Moreover, there were total 55 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 86 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 41 females and 39 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
