In 2017 election of Shikhar Municipality (Doti district), candidate Sitaram Joshi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,353 (48.53%) votes out of total votes of 11,030 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Sher Bahadur Malla of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 4,437 (27.08%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,240 (5.62) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Dhaula Devi Rawal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,335 (48.71%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Radhika Bohara of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,470 (27.45%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,147 (5.24) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 189 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 109 (57.67%) males and 80 (42.33%) females. Moreover, there were total 40 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 69 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 34 females and 36 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
