In 2017 election of Sharada Municipality (Salyan district), candidate Suresh Adhikari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,214 (33.39%) votes out of total votes of 12,621 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ram Kumar Khadgi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,344 (19.86%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 5,063 (20.06) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sabitra Basnet (gharti) of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,180 (38.14%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Sarita Hamal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,037 (26.66%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,744 (12.52) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 308 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 182 (59.09%) males and 126 (40.91%) females. Moreover, there were total 63 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 15 wards. Same as, total 118 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 58 females and 57 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
