Shankharapur Municipality (Kathmandu) Election Results 2017
In 2017 election of Shankharapur Municipality (Kathmandu district), candidate Suvarna Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,869 (36.80%) votes out of total votes of 13,230 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Shankar Tiwari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,947 (16.28%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 5,414 (20.46) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sukra Laxmi Shrestha (basi) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,043 (38.95%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Manju Khadka of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,300 (18.34%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,603 (17.78) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 207 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 134 (64.73%) males and 73 (35.27%) females. Moreover, there were total 50 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 77 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 37 females and 26 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
