In 2017 election of Sarumarani Rural Municipality (Pyuthan district), candidate Jhag Bahadur Bishwokarma of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,677 (48.93%) votes out of total votes of 7,515 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Dor Bahadur Darlami Magar of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 2,241 (20.02%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,597 (10.63) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Mina Kumari Saume Magar of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,680 (48.44%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Laxmi Palli Magar of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 2,115 (18.75%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,802 (11.86) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 116 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 72 (62.07%) males and 44 (37.93%) females. Moreover, there were total 24 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 44 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 20 females and 19 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
