In 2017 election of Sammarimai Rural Municipality (Rupandehi district), candidate Jiendra Nath Shukla of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) secured 3,066 (26.67%) votes out of total votes of 11,497 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Binod Kumar Shrivastav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,196 (15.08%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 6,235 (27.12) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Kumari Priyanka Shahi Singh of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,816 (26.66%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Kamalawati Ahirani of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) secured 2,150 (16.07%) of votes and came in second position. Other 8 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 5,597 (26.49) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 272 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 172 (63.24%) males and 100 (36.76%) females. Moreover, there were total 59 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 101 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 48 females and 44 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
