In 2017 election of Sainamaina Municipality (Rupandehi district), candidate Chitra Bahadur Karki of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 13,036 (49.06%) votes out of total votes of 26,574 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Panendra Prasad Sharma of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 10,305 (26.02%) of votes. The rest of 11 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 3,233 (6.08) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bina Rana of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 13,261 (50.44%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Laxmi Chaudhary Tharu of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 9,709 (24.55%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,322 (6.32) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 271 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 158 (58.30%) males and 113 (41.70%) females. Moreover, there were total 61 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 99 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 51 females and 39 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
