Rong is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Ilam district, Province No. 1 of Nepal. Rong has total 6 wards, which are scattered across 155 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Rong Rural Municipality had total population of 19,135.

As of 2011, 1,243 population in Rong Rural Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 6.50 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 1,063, which equals to 11.32 percent of total 9,389 males. Same as, 180 females were absent, which equals to 1.85 percent of 9,746 females. At least one member of 1,009 (23.19 percent) households were absent.

As illustrated in the charts, the ratio of absentee population was 14.39, while male to female absentee population ratio was 5.91. Same as, the household ratio of present vs. absent population was 3.31.

In terms of age, the largest population in Rong Rural Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 2,459. Gender wise, there were 1,210 males and 1,249 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 263 population, which consistes of 139 males and 124 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 10 and 14 (2,459), between 15 and 19 (2,227), between 5 and 9 (1,942), between 20 and 24 (1,651), between 25 and 29 (1,561) with total population of 9,840. In contrast, bottom 5 least populated age groups were between 70 and 74 (263), above 75 (415), between 65 and 69 (436), between 60 and 64 (567), and between 55 and 59 (681) with total population of 2,362. The median age-group of total population falls below 4 and between 40 and 44 with average population of 1,212.

Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (1,210), between 15 and 19 (1,120), between 5 and 9 (922), between 20 and 24 (725), and between 25 and 29 (692), with total population of 4,669. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (139), between 65 and 69 (236), above 75 (245),between 60 and 64 (319), and between 55 and 59 (362), with total population of 1,301. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 10 and 14 (1,249), between 15 and 19 (1,107), between 5 and 9 (1,020), between 20 and 24 (926), and between 25 and 29 (869), with total population of 5,171. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (124), above 75 (170), between 65 and 69 (200),between 60 and 64 (248), and between 55 and 59 (319), with total population of 1,061.

The population with age-group above 75 had male to female ratio of 1.44, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 20 to 24 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.78. The age-groups above 75, 60 to 64, 50 to 54, 65 to 69, 55 to 59, 70 to 74, below 4, 15 to 19 had majority of male population while age-groups 45 to 49, 10 to 14, 40 to 44, 35 to 39, 5 to 9, 30 to 34, 25 to 29, 20 to 24 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 64.69 % (12,378 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 29.49 % with total number of 5,643. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 5.82 % with total number of 1,114. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 35.31 with total number of 6,757

There were 5,399 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 1,242. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 230 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 3,367 in Rong Rural Municipality with 1,516 (45.03%) of males and 1,851 (54.97%) females. There were total 31 schools. In average, 109 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Rong Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Rai caste with total population of 6,358. There were as little as Chamar/Harijan/Ram caste with population of as little as 11 in total. People of several other castes who live in Rong are Brahmin - Hill, Tamang, Chhetri, Limbu, Lepcha, Kami, Magar, Gharti/Bhujel, Sunuwar, Newar, Gurung, Damai/Dholi, Undefined Others, Sherpa, Thulung, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Chamling, Yamphu, Bahing, Muslim, Yakkha, Kulung, Sarki, Hayu, Loharung, Tharu, Samgpang, Khawas, Bantaba, Lohar, Kewat, Yadav, Chamar/Harijan/Ram, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Rong Rural Municipality are Rai (6,358), Brahmin - Hill (2,130), Tamang (1,841), Chhetri (1,700) and Limbu (1,023) with total population of 13,052, which forms 68.21 percent out of total population of 19,135 in Rong Rural Municipality.

Out of total population of 19,135, there were total 549 (2.87%) disabled persons in Rong Rural Municipality with 294 (53.55%) males and 255 (46.45%) females. The physically disabled persons were 138, while mentally disabled people were 33 and intellectually disabled were 20.

Similarly, there were 93 people who were blind and 104 people were deaf, while 6 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 81 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 74 people had multiple disabilities.

Out of total 4351 households in Rong Rural Municipality, there were 1,706 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 311 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 45 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 2,210houses were founded on wood.

With respect to wall of the houses, 1,308 houses were mud bonded, 382 houses were cement bonded, 1,387 houses were wood planks bonded, 1,117 houses were bamboo bonded and 3 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 532 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 3,691 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 28 houses had roof of tile, 29 houses had RCC roofs, 11 houses had roof of woods while 4 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 400 out of 4,351 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 1,250 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 2,676 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

In Rong Rural Municipality, there were total 3,990 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 5 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 4 houses had covered well while 173 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. Other resources of water facilities were spout water (26) and river stream (74), which were reported of the household's source of water.

With reference to source of fuel, 4,028 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 57 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 57 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (14), bio-gas (170), fuel electricity (0), etc.

Same as, total 1,588 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 1,756, while 938 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.36.

out of 4,351 households in Rong Rural Municipality, 551 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 3,725 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Radio was used by the maximum households with total users of 2,853, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 2,772.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 392 establishments in Rong Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 926 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 469 and female engagement of 457 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.36 people engaged with average males are 1.20 and females are 1.17. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.03, which means as many as 1.03 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
