In 2017 election of Ratnanagar Municipality (Chitwan district), candidate Narayan Ban of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 14,677 (44.66%) votes out of total votes of 32,867 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Rupan Raj Ghimire of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 13,227 (27.82%) of votes. The rest of 10 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,963 (7.55) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bimala Devi Dawadi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 14,481 (44.59%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Nita Dhakal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 12,703 (27.05%) of votes and came in second position. Other 8 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 5,290 (8.14) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 383 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 216 (56.40%) males and 167 (43.60%) females. Moreover, there were total 88 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 16 wards. Same as, total 139 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 72 females and 62 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
