In 2017 election of Purchaudi Municipality (Baitadi district), candidate Ran Bahadur Kuwar of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,446 (35.19%) votes out of total votes of 12,635 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Dipak Bahadur Bam of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,111 (24.07%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,078 (16.14) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Janaki Bam (air) of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,984 (40.58%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Janaki Kumari Bohara/ Saud of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,787 (21.93%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,512 (14.30) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 172 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 105 (61.05%) males and 67 (38.95%) females. Moreover, there were total 38 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 64 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 33 females and 29 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
