Punarbas is a Municipality, which is located in Kanchanpur district, Sudurpashchim Province of Nepal. Punarbas has total 11 wards, which are scattered across 104 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Punarbas Municipality had total population of 53,633.

Wardwise Population and Households

As per 2011 population census, Punarbas Municipality had total 53,633 population with 24,907 males and 28,726 females. Out of total wards, ward number 9 had the largest population 7,126, while ward number 3 had least number of population with 7,126.

In terms of age, the largest population in Punarbas Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 8,104. Gender wise, there were 4,105 males and 3,999 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was above 75 with total 639 population, which consistes of 309 males and 330 females. Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (4,105), between 5 and 9 (3,621), below 4 (3,031), between 15 and 19 (2,811), and between 20 and 24 (1,730), with total population of 15,298. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were above 75 (309), between 70 and 74 (353), between 65 and 69 (513),between 55 and 59 (672), and between 60 and 64 (716), with total population of 2,563. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 10 and 14 (3,999), between 15 and 19 (3,538), between 5 and 9 (3,523), below 4 (2,796), and between 20 and 24 (2,770), with total population of 16,626. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were above 75 (330), between 70 and 74 (338), between 65 and 69 (489),between 55 and 59 (723), and between 60 and 64 (820), with total population of 2,700.

The population with age-group below 4 had male to female ratio of 1.08, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 20 to 24 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.62. The age-groups below 4, 65 to 69, 70 to 74, 5 to 9, 10 to 14 had majority of male population while age-groups above 75, 55 to 59, 45 to 49, 60 to 64, 15 to 19, 40 to 44, 35 to 39, 30 to 34, 25 to 29, 20 to 24 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups 50 to 54 had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 56.36 % (30,226 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 39.29 % with total number of 21,075. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 4.35 % with total number of 2,332. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 43.64 with total number of 23,407

There were 14,824 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 5,827. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 393 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

Grade 1-12 Students & Schools

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 16,207 in Punarbas Municipality with 7,439 (45.90%) of males and 8,768 (54.10%) females. There were total 57 schools. In average, 284 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Punarbas Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Chhetri caste with total population of 13,058. There were as little as Marwadi caste with population of as little as 14 in total. People of several other castes who live in Punarbas are Tharu, Kami, Tamang, Brahmin - Hill, Thakuri, Magar, Dalit Others, Sarki, Damai/Dholi, Gurung, Newar, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Lohar, Badi, Kumal, Gharti/Bhujel, Majhi, Muslim, Haluwai, Rai, Terai Others, Kathbaniyan, Marwadi, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Punarbas Municipality are Chhetri (13,058), Tharu (10,346), Kami (7,587), Tamang (6,143) and Brahmin - Hill (5,582) with total population of 42,716, which forms 79.64 percent out of total population of 53,633 in Punarbas Municipality.

Out of total population of 53,633, there were total 1,562 (2.91%) disabled persons in Punarbas Municipality with 825 (52.82%) males and 737 (47.18%) females. The physically disabled persons were 654, while mentally disabled people were 74 and intellectually disabled were 34.

Similarly, there were 310 people who were blind and 225 people were deaf, while 29 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 136 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 100 people had multiple disabilities.

Household Foundation

Out of total 9909 households in Punarbas Municipality, there were 3,531 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 1,451 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 27 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 4,769houses were founded on wood.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 755 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 2,364 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 5,868 houses had roof of tile, 712 houses had RCC roofs, 50 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 4,436 out of 9,909 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 2,650 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 2,740 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

Utilities

In Punarbas Municipality, there were total 355 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 9,334 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 8 houses had covered well while 6 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. With reference to source of fuel, 8,689 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 37 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 373 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (13), bio-gas (682), fuel electricity (0), etc.

Same as, total 6,438 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 3,347, while 19 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.65.

Facilities

out of 9,909 households in Punarbas Municipality, 824 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 8,938 households reported of using at least one facility. In those establishments, total 5,071 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 3,267 and female engagement of 1,804 persons.In every business, there were an average of 3.82 people engaged with average males are 2.46 and females are 1.36.
