In 2017 election of Pratappur Rural Municipality (Nawalparasi_W district), candidate Raj Kumar Sharma of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,436 (37.38%) votes out of total votes of 11,867 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Khem Narayan Chaudhary of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) who secured 3,727 (22.86%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 3,704 (15.61) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Anju Kumari Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,686 (41.37%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Gun Kumari Tharu of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) secured 3,081 (19.24%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 3,561 (15.72) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 163 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 98 (60.12%) males and 65 (39.88%) females. Moreover, there were total 37 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 60 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 29 females and 26 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
