Prasauni is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Bara district, Province No. 2 of Nepal. Prasauni has total 7 wards, which are scattered across 20 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Prasauni Rural Municipality had total population of 25,478.

Wardwise Population and Households

As per 2011 population census, Prasauni Rural Municipality had total 25,049 population with 12,872 males and 12,177 females. Out of total wards, ward number 4 had the largest population 4,737, while ward number 3 had least number of population with 4,737.

In terms of age, the largest population in Prasauni Rural Municipality were between 5 and 9 years of age with total 3,798. Gender wise, there were 1,933 males and 1,865 females of the same age group. Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 5 and 9 (1,933), between 10 and 14 (1,739), below 4 (1,430), between 15 and 19 (1,349), and between 20 and 24 (995), with total population of 7,446. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were above 75 (89), between 70 and 74 (162), between 65 and 69 (236),between 60 and 64 (357), and between 55 and 59 (375), with total population of 1,219. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 5 and 9 (1,865), between 10 and 14 (1,612), below 4 (1,468), between 15 and 19 (1,142), and between 25 and 29 (1,013), with total population of 7,100. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were above 75 (66), between 70 and 74 (110), between 65 and 69 (210),between 55 and 59 (319), and between 60 and 64 (345), with total population of 1,050.

The population with age-group 70 to 74 had male to female ratio of 1.47, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 25 to 29 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.87. The age-groups 70 to 74, above 75, 15 to 19, 55 to 59, 45 to 49, 65 to 69, 35 to 39, 20 to 24, 10 to 14, 40 to 44, 5 to 9, 50 to 54, 60 to 64 had majority of male population while age-groups below 4, 25 to 29 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups 30 to 34 had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 55.46 % (14,129 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 39.43 % with total number of 10,047. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 3.43 % with total number of 873. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 42.86 with total number of 10,920

There were 5,783 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 2,898. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 501 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

Grade 1-12 Students & Schools

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 6,301 in Prasauni Rural Municipality with 3,116 (49.45%) of males and 3,185 (50.55%) females. There were total 10 schools. In average, 630 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Prasauni Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Muslim caste with total population of 4,185. There were as little as Haluwai caste with population of as little as 12 in total. People of several other castes who live in Prasauni are Teli, Dhanuk, Kanu, Koiri/Kushwaha, Kalwar, Mallaha, Yadav, Kurmi, Chamar/Harijan/Ram, Dusadh/Pasawan/Pasi, Kumhar, Dhobi, Hajam/Thakur, Tatma/Tatwa, Bin, Gaderi/Bhedhar, Kahar, Brahmin - Hill, Kumal, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Lohar, Chhetri, Sonar, Nuniya, Tharu, Newar, Baraee, Dom, Halkhor, Brahmin - Tarai, Dalit Others, Terai Others, Magar, Kathbaniyan, Satar/Santhal, Mali, Sunuwar, Punjabi/Shikh, Sudhi, Haluwai, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Prasauni Rural Municipality are Muslim (4,185), Teli (3,815), Dhanuk (2,638), Kanu (1,775) and Koiri/Kushwaha (1,602) with total population of 14,015, which forms 55.01 percent out of total population of 25,478 in Prasauni Rural Municipality.

Population by Disability

Out of total population of 25,049, there were total 119 (0.48%) disabled persons in Prasauni Rural Municipality with 82 (68.91%) males and 37 (31.09%) females. The physically disabled persons were 34, while mentally disabled people were 16 and intellectually disabled were 6.

Household Foundation

Out of total 3626 households in Prasauni Rural Municipality, there were 224 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 1,345 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 19 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 1,956houses were founded on wood.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 705 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 24 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 1,746 houses had roof of tile, 1,047 houses had RCC roofs, 44 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 2,658 out of 3,626 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 533 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 378 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

Utilities

In Prasauni Rural Municipality, there were total 201 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 3,143 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 4 houses had covered well while 5 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. With reference to source of fuel, 2,404 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 28 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 101 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (1,023), bio-gas (9), fuel electricity (1), etc.

Same as, total 2,563 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 925, while 17 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.71.

Facilities

out of 3,626 households in Prasauni Rural Municipality, 337 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 3,239 households reported of using at least one facility.
