In 2017 election of Myanglung Municipality (Terhathum district), candidate Sanjaya Kumar Tumbahangphe of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,890 (50.10%) votes out of total votes of 7,765 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ran Bikram Limbu of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,568 (30.61%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 307 (1.98) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Parbati Sanu Dangi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,063 (53.43%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Uma Devi Karki of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,242 (27.79%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 300 (1.97) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 185 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 118 (63.78%) males and 67 (36.22%) females. Moreover, there were total 43 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 69 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 31 females and 27 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
