There were 20,864 votes casted during 1999 House of Representatives elections in Mugu District, Constituency No. 1. The candidte of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) - Chandra Bahadur Shahi secured 11,134 (53.36%) votes and secured victory in the election. The runner-up candidate was Karme Jaishy of Nepali Congress Party who secured 8,701 (41.70%) votes and came in second position.
