In 2017 election of Miklajung Rural Municipality (Panchthar district), candidate Amar Raj Makhim of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,762 (38.17%) votes out of total votes of 9,857 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Dhan Kumar Phiyak of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,296 (24.20%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 2,799 (14.20) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Urmila Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,506 (36.27%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Junu Kuamri Lawati of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,114 (23.64%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 3,047 (15.76) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 162 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 100 (61.73%) males and 62 (38.27%) females. Moreover, there were total 35 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 62 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 32 females and 23 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
