Meringden is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Taplejung district, Province No. 1 of Nepal. Meringden has total 6 wards, which are scattered across 210 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Meringden Rural Municipality had total population of 12,548.

As of 2011, 970 population in Meringden Rural Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 7.73 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 933, which equals to 16.06 percent of total 5,809 males. Same as, 37 females were absent, which equals to 0.55 percent of 6,739 females. At least one member of 760 (29.48 percent) households were absent.

In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (100), between 65 and 69 (107), above 75 (142),between 55 and 59 (181), and between 60 and 64 (198), with total population of 728. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 10 and 14 (967), between 5 and 9 (935), between 15 and 19 (771), below 4 (710), and between 20 and 24 (538), with total population of 3,921. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (91), between 65 and 69 (121), above 75 (129),between 60 and 64 (187), and between 55 and 59 (197), with total population of 725.

The population with age-group 70 to 74 had male to female ratio of 1.10, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 25 to 29 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.59. The age-groups 70 to 74, above 75, 60 to 64, 50 to 54 had majority of male population while age-groups below 4, 15 to 19, 5 to 9, 55 to 59, 10 to 14, 40 to 44, 65 to 69, 45 to 49, 35 to 39, 20 to 24, 30 to 34, 25 to 29 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 54.43 % (6,830 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 40.07 % with total number of 5,028. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 5.50 % with total number of 690. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 45.57 with total number of 5,718

There were 3,137 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 1,379. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 440 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 3,897 in Meringden Rural Municipality with 1,812 (46.50%) of males and 2,085 (53.50%) females. There were total 36 schools. In average, 108 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Meringden Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Limbu caste with total population of 7,106. There were as little as Rai caste with population of as little as 27 in total. People of several other castes who live in Meringden are Sherpa, Kami, Bhote, Tamang, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Brahmin - Hill, Chhetri, Damai/Dholi, Newar, Magar, Rai, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Meringden Rural Municipality are Limbu (7,106), Sherpa (3,604), Kami (587), Bhote (342) and Tamang (231) with total population of 11,870, which forms 94.60 percent out of total population of 12,548 in Meringden Rural Municipality.

Out of total population of 12,548, there were total 414 (3.30%) disabled persons in Meringden Rural Municipality with 228 (55.07%) males and 186 (44.93%) females. The physically disabled persons were 190, while mentally disabled people were 20 and intellectually disabled were 7.

Similarly, there were 75 people who were blind and 61 people were deaf, while 3 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 40 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 18 people had multiple disabilities.

Out of total 2578 households in Meringden Rural Municipality, there were 2,326 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 2 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 0 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 229houses were founded on wood.

With respect to wall of the houses, 2,149 houses were mud bonded, 4 houses were cement bonded, 97 houses were wood planks bonded, 306 houses were bamboo bonded and 1 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 1,964 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 486 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 14 houses had roof of tile, 4 houses had RCC roofs, 6 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 1,056 out of 2,578 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 325 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 1,180 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

In Meringden Rural Municipality, there were total 2,325 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 1 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 6 houses had covered well while 38 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. Other resources of water facilities were spout water (144) and river stream (40), which were reported of the household's source of water.

With reference to source of fuel, 2,533 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 20 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 4 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (0), bio-gas (3), fuel electricity (0), etc.

Same as, total 385 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 1,678, while 484 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.15.

out of 2,578 households in Meringden Rural Municipality, 739 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 1,839 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Radio was used by the maximum households with total users of 1,434, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 1,359.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 397 establishments in Meringden Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 1,139 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 639 and female engagement of 500 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.87 people engaged with average males are 1.61 and females are 1.26. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.28, which means as many as 1.28 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
