Meringden Rural Municipality (Taplejung) Election Results 2017
In 2017 election of Meringden Rural Municipality (Taplejung district), candidate Ganesh Bahadur Limbu of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,300 (50.48%) votes out of total votes of 4,556 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Mangal Singh Kedem of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 2,185 (31.87%) of votes. The rest of 1 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 71 (0.78) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Kalpana Tumbahamphe of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,334 (66.82%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Bhim Kumar Kedem of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 1,081 (18.55%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 78 (1.12) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 92 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 58 (63.04%) males and 34 (36.96%) females. Moreover, there were total 17 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 37 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 17 females and 15 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
