In 2017 election of Melauli Municipality (Baitadi district), candidate Krishna Singh Nayek of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,344 (32.70%) votes out of total votes of 7,168 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Bhim Bahadur Chand of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 2,068 (21.74%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,756 (19.22) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Kumari Radha Ojha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,152 (30.88%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Manmati Kumari Bhatt of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,018 (22.13%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,798 (20.08) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 175 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 103 (58.86%) males and 72 (41.14%) females. Moreover, there were total 36 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 65 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 34 females and 31 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
