In 2017 election of Masta Rural Municipality (Bajhang district), candidate Karna Bahdur Kathayat of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,142 (43.32%) votes out of total votes of 4,945 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Gyan Bahadur Bohara of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 1,961 (27.67%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 842 (8.51) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Bhagwati Kumari Bohara of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,180 (44.77%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Devi Kumari Seti of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,930 (27.38%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 759 (7.79) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 104 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 62 (59.62%) males and 42 (40.38%) females. Moreover, there were total 20 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 40 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 20 females and 17 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
