Mahabharat is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Kavrepalanchok district, Province No. 3 of Nepal. Mahabharat has total 8 wards, which are scattered across 186 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Mahabharat Rural Municipality had total population of 18,283.

As of 2011, 949 population in Mahabharat Rural Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 5.19 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 775, which equals to 8.67 percent of total 8,941 males. Same as, 174 females were absent, which equals to 1.86 percent of 9,342 females. At least one member of 765 (26.29 percent) households were absent.

As illustrated in the charts, the ratio of absentee population was 18.27, while male to female absentee population ratio was 4.45. Same as, the household ratio of present vs. absent population was 2.80.

In terms of age, the largest population in Mahabharat Rural Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 3,010. Gender wise, there were 1,530 males and 1,480 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 249 population, which consistes of 119 males and 130 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 10 and 14 (3,010), between 5 and 9 (2,761), below 4 (2,215), between 15 and 19 (2,137), between 20 and 24 (1,280) with total population of 11,403. In contrast, bottom 5 least populated age groups were between 70 and 74 (249), above 75 (313), between 65 and 69 (336), between 60 and 64 (365), and between 55 and 59 (434) with total population of 1,697. The median age-group of total population falls between 30 and 34 and between 40 and 44 with average population of 896.

Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (1,530), between 5 and 9 (1,424), below 4 (1,138), between 15 and 19 (1,003), and between 20 and 24 (541), with total population of 5,636. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (119), above 75 (152), between 65 and 69 (161),between 60 and 64 (183), and between 55 and 59 (214), with total population of 829. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 10 and 14 (1,480), between 5 and 9 (1,337), between 15 and 19 (1,134), below 4 (1,077), and between 20 and 24 (739), with total population of 5,767. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (130), above 75 (161), between 65 and 69 (175),between 60 and 64 (182), and between 55 and 59 (220), with total population of 868.

The population with age-group 50 to 54 had male to female ratio of 1.21, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 20 to 24 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.73. The age-groups 50 to 54, 5 to 9, below 4, 45 to 49, 10 to 14, 60 to 64 had majority of male population while age-groups 55 to 59, 40 to 44, above 75, 65 to 69, 70 to 74, 15 to 19, 35 to 39, 30 to 34, 25 to 29, 20 to 24 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 51.41 % (9,399 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 43.68 % with total number of 7,986. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 4.91 % with total number of 898. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 48.59 with total number of 8,884

There were 4,278 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 2,215. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 518 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 9,491 in Mahabharat Rural Municipality with 4,447 (46.85%) of males and 5,044 (53.15%) females. There were total 54 schools. In average, 176 students were studying in each school.

Out of total population, 6,481 female speaks Tamang language, while 6,240 male speaks Tamang language.Details information about languages spoken by male and female groups of population has been illustrated in the table.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Mahabharat Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Tamang caste with total population of 12,777. There were as little as Pahari caste with population of as little as 25 in total. People of several other castes who live in Mahabharat are Magar, Kami, Newar, Chhetri, Majhi, Brahmin - Hill, Sarki, Damai/Dholi, Pahari, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Mahabharat Rural Municipality are Tamang (12,777), Magar (3,880), Kami (495), Newar (478) and Chhetri (205) with total population of 17,835, which forms 97.55 percent out of total population of 18,283 in Mahabharat Rural Municipality.

Out of total population of 18,283, there were total 360 (1.97%) disabled persons in Mahabharat Rural Municipality with 198 (55.00%) males and 162 (45.00%) females. The physically disabled persons were 118, while mentally disabled people were 13 and intellectually disabled were 14.

Similarly, there were 68 people who were blind and 46 people were deaf, while 5 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 48 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 48 people had multiple disabilities.

Out of total 2910 households in Mahabharat Rural Municipality, there were 2,698 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 3 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 0 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 188houses were founded on wood.

With respect to wall of the houses, 2,736 houses were mud bonded, 9 houses were cement bonded, 82 houses were wood planks bonded, 55 houses were bamboo bonded and 0 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 1,715 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 715 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 405 houses had roof of tile, 0 houses had RCC roofs, 15 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 972 out of 2,910 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 1,746 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 171 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

In Mahabharat Rural Municipality, there were total 2,459 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 3 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 28 houses had covered well while 156 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. Other resources of water facilities were spout water (152) and river stream (92), which were reported of the household's source of water.

With reference to source of fuel, 2,866 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 7 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 3 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (1), bio-gas (10), fuel electricity (0), etc.

Same as, total 1,887 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 587, while 176 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.65.

out of 2,910 households in Mahabharat Rural Municipality, 1,019 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 1,790 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Radio was used by the maximum households with total users of 1,383, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 1,042.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 268 establishments in Mahabharat Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 709 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 421 and female engagement of 288 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.65 people engaged with average males are 1.57 and females are 1.07. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.46, which means as many as 1.46 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
