In 2017 election of Madi Municipality (Sankhuwasabha district), candidate Bidur Kumar Lingthep of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,740 (41.84%) votes out of total votes of 6,549 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ram Kumar Jimi (yakhkha) of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,122 (22.84%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,687 (12.88) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Urmila Nepal Subedi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,914 (45.62%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Kalpana Karki (khatri) of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,112 (22.71%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,361 (10.65) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 170 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 100 (58.82%) males and 70 (41.18%) females. Moreover, there were total 36 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 65 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 34 females and 25 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
