In 2017 election of Khalsachhintang Shahid Bhumi Rural Municipality (Dhankuta district), candidate Manoj Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,054 (55.35%) votes out of total votes of 7,324 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Bharat Singh Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 1,579 (13.88%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,691 (11.54) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Ratnashwori Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,916 (54.32%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Ram Kumari Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 1,534 (13.79%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,759 (12.20) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 134 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 79 (58.96%) males and 55 (41.04%) females. Moreover, there were total 27 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 51 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 25 females and 20 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
