There were 51,916 votes casted during 2008 Constituent Assembly elections in Jhapa District, Constituency No. 5. The candidte of Nepali Congress Party - Keshav Kumar Budhathoki secured 16,466 (31.72%) votes and secured victory in the election. The runner-up candidate was Harka Bahadur Khadka of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) who secured 15,548 (29.95%) votes and came in second position.
