There were 44,307 votes casted during 2008 Constituent Assembly elections in Jhapa District, Constituency No. 2. The candidte of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) - Gauri Shankar Khadka secured 18,580 (41.93%) votes and secured victory in the election. The runner-up candidate was Sudhir Kumar Siwakoti of Nepali Congress Party who secured 13,843 (31.24%) votes and came in second position.
