There were 44,307 votes casted during 2008 Constituent Assembly elections in Jhapa District, Constituency No. 2. The candidte of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) - Gauri Shankar Khadka secured 18,580 (41.93%) votes and secured victory in the election. The runner-up candidate was Sudhir Kumar Siwakoti of Nepali Congress Party who secured 13,843 (31.24%) votes and came in second position. The difference in votes of Gauri Shankar Khadka and Sudhir Kumar Siwakoti was 4,737. All other candidates secured 11,884 (26.82%) votes.
