In 2017 election of Godaita Municipality (Sarlahi district), candidate Devendra Kumar Yadav of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 3,902 (24.24%) votes out of total votes of 16,097 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Upendra Prasad Kushwaha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,674 (18.37%) of votes. The rest of 13 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,521 (26.47) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Anjana Kushwaha of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RasJPN) secured 4,975 (35.56%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Asha Devi Paswan of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,122 (16.46%) of votes and came in second position. Other 11 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 5,893 (21.06) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 367 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 238 (64.85%) males and 129 (35.15%) females. Moreover, there were total 88 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 137 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 58 females and 56 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
