In 2017 election of Gaumul Rural Municipality (Bajura district), candidate Hari Bahadur Rokaya of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,240 (59.01%) votes out of total votes of 3,796 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Dev Bahadur Rokaya of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 1,491 (24.70%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 65 (0.86) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Sita Rokaya Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,201 (58.04%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Uma Rokaya of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,510 (25.20%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 81 (1.07) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 76 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 44 (57.89%) males and 32 (42.11%) females. Moreover, there were total 17 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 25 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 13 females and 12 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
