Gadhimai is a Municipality, which is located in Rautahat district, Province No. 2 of Nepal. Gadhimai has total 9 wards, which are scattered across 49 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Gadhimai Municipality had total population of 40,410.

As of 2011, 269 population in Gadhimai Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 0.67 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 267, which equals to 1.29 percent of total 20,705 males. Same as, 2 females were absent, which equals to 0.01 percent of 19,705 females. At least one member of 239 (3.94 percent) households were absent.

In terms of age, the largest population in Gadhimai Municipality were between 5 and 9 years of age with total 6,082. Gender wise, there were 3,062 males and 3,020 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was above 75 with total 445 population, which consistes of 246 males and 199 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 5 and 9 (6,082), between 10 and 14 (5,299), below 4 (5,012), between 15 and 19 (3,698), between 20 and 24 (3,247) with total population of 23,338. In contrast, bottom 5 least populated age groups were above 75 (445), between 70 and 74 (637), between 65 and 69 (831), between 55 and 59 (1,057), and between 60 and 64 (1,089) with total population of 4,059. The median age-group of total population falls between 35 and 39 and between 40 and 44 with average population of 2,241.

Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 5 and 9 (3,062), between 10 and 14 (2,649), below 4 (2,487), between 15 and 19 (1,953), and between 20 and 24 (1,661), with total population of 11,812. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were above 75 (246), between 70 and 74 (373), between 65 and 69 (426),between 55 and 59 (527), and between 60 and 64 (568), with total population of 2,140. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 5 and 9 (3,020), between 10 and 14 (2,650), below 4 (2,525), between 15 and 19 (1,745), and between 20 and 24 (1,586), with total population of 11,526. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were above 75 (199), between 70 and 74 (264), between 65 and 69 (405),between 60 and 64 (521), and between 55 and 59 (530), with total population of 1,919.

The population with age-group 70 to 74 had male to female ratio of 1.41, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 30 to 34 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.87. The age-groups 70 to 74, above 75, 50 to 54, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 15 to 19, 35 to 39, 25 to 29, 60 to 64, 20 to 24, 65 to 69, 5 to 9 had majority of male population while age-groups 55 to 59, below 4, 30 to 34 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups 10 to 14 had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 54.70 % (22,104 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 40.57 % with total number of 16,393. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 4.73 % with total number of 1,913. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 45.30 with total number of 18,306

There were 9,037 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 5,012. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 555 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 12,080 in Gadhimai Municipality with 5,902 (48.86%) of males and 6,178 (51.14%) females. There were total 27 schools. In average, 447 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Gadhimai Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Yadav caste with total population of 9,507. There were as little as Sherpa caste with population of as little as 11 in total. People of several other castes who live in Gadhimai are Muslim, Mallaha, Kurmi, Kanu, Chamar/Harijan/Ram, Dusadh/Pasawan/Pasi, Teli, Dhobi, Kathbaniyan, Lohar, Tatma/Tatwa, Bin, Kalwar, Hajam/Thakur, Nuniya, Kumhar, Brahmin - Tarai, Marwadi, Newar, Tharu, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Mali, Koiri/Kushwaha, Musahar, Brahmin - Hill, Sonar, Bangali, Sudhi, Kayastha, Terai Others, Rai, Gaderi/Bhedhar, Dom, Badhaee, Baraee, Dhunia, Chhetri, Kami, Rajbansi, Rajput, Dhanuk, Kewat, Natuwa, Sherpa, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Gadhimai Municipality are Yadav (9,507), Muslim (6,954), Mallaha (3,173), Kurmi (2,663) and Kanu (2,251) with total population of 24,548, which forms 60.75 percent out of total population of 40,410 in Gadhimai Municipality.

Out of total population of 40,410, there were total 298 (0.74%) disabled persons in Gadhimai Municipality with 181 (60.74%) males and 117 (39.26%) females. The physically disabled persons were 113, while mentally disabled people were 25 and intellectually disabled were 8.

Similarly, there were 43 people who were blind and 36 people were deaf, while 5 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 46 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 22 people had multiple disabilities.

Out of total 6069 households in Gadhimai Municipality, there were 547 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 907 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 87 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 4,366houses were founded on wood.

With respect to wall of the houses, 408 houses were mud bonded, 878 houses were cement bonded, 68 houses were wood planks bonded, 4,543 houses were bamboo bonded and 18 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 748 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 45 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 4,802 houses had roof of tile, 278 houses had RCC roofs, 30 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 4,762 out of 6,069 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 437 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 751 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

In Gadhimai Municipality, there were total 94 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 5,708 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 20 houses had covered well while 22 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. Other resources of water facilities were spout water (1) and river stream (0), which were reported of the household's source of water.

With reference to source of fuel, 2,469 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 100 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 14 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (3,136), bio-gas (10), fuel electricity (1), etc.

Same as, total 3,143 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 2,761, while 22 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.52.

out of 6,069 households in Gadhimai Municipality, 1,530 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 4,422 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Bicycle was used by the maximum households with total users of 3,715, while Radio was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 2,347.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 433 establishments in Gadhimai Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 1,227 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 1,040 and female engagement of 187 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.83 people engaged with average males are 2.40 and females are 0.43. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 5.56, which means as many as 5.56 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
