Chaukune Rural Municipality (Surkhet) Election Results 2017
In 2017 election of Chaukune Rural Municipality (Surkhet district), candidate Dhir Bahadur Shahi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,242 (38.63%) votes out of total votes of 8,392 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Khadak B.k of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 2,633 (22.63%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 2,517 (15.00) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Nirmala Magar of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,357 (41.14%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Bimala G.c of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 2,312 (20.07%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 2,491 (15.26) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 223 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 139 (62.33%) males and 84 (37.67%) females. Moreover, there were total 47 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 86 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 38 females and 37 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
