In 2017 election of Chaudandigadhi Municipality (Udayapur district), candidate Khagendra Rai of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,870 (35.55%) votes out of total votes of 19,324 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Narendra Kumar Raut of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 6,330 (24.17%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 6,124 (15.85) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Rita Kumari Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 7,666 (39.97%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Kanta Kumari Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,485 (24.16%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 5,029 (13.11) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 258 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 149 (57.75%) males and 109 (42.25%) females. Moreover, there were total 57 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 94 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 45 females and 44 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
