Chandragiri is a Municipality located in Kathmandu District of Nepal. It has total 15 wards and 44 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 census, it had total population of 85,198.

Chandragiri is a Municipality, which is located in Kathmandu district, Province No. 3 of Nepal. Chandragiri has total 15 wards, which are scattered across 44 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Chandragiri Municipality had total population of 85,198.

Wardwise Population and Households

As per 2011 population census, Chandragiri Municipality had total 85,198 population with 42,881 males and 42,317 females. Out of total wards, ward number 15 had the largest population 9,726, while ward number 2 had least number of population with 9,726.

With respect to number of households, Chandragiri Municipality had total 20,532 households. The ward number 15 had most households with total 2,507, while ward number 2 had least number of households with total 817 number of households.Wardwise Population Chart of Chandragiri Municipality

As illustrated in the chart, the ratio of male to female population was 1.01, which indicates that Chandragiri Municipality had -1 percent lower males as compared to the females. In terms of age, the largest population in Chandragiri Municipality were between 20 and 24 years of age with total 10,325. However, gender wise largest population age group differs from the total population, such as largest male population falls between 15 and 19 with total 4,811 while female population falls between 20 and 24 with total 5,571 population. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 1,002 population, which consistes of 499 males and 503 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 20 and 24 (10,325), between 25 and 29 (9,333), between 15 and 19 (9,220), between 10 and 14 (8,290), between 30 and 34 (7,674) with total population of 44,842. In contrast, bottom 5 least populated age groups were between 70 and 74 (1,002), between 65 and 69 (1,395), above 75 (1,410), between 60 and 64 (1,826), and between 55 and 59 (2,177) with total population of 7,810. Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 15 and 19 (4,811), between 20 and 24 (4,754), between 25 and 29 (4,365), between 10 and 14 (4,307), and between 30 and 34 (3,797), with total population of 22,034. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (499), between 65 and 69 (642), above 75 (659),between 60 and 64 (861), and between 55 and 59 (1,185), with total population of 3,846. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 20 and 24 (5,571), between 25 and 29 (4,968), between 15 and 19 (4,409), between 10 and 14 (3,983), and between 30 and 34 (3,877), with total population of 22,808. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (503), above 75 (751), between 65 and 69 (753),between 60 and 64 (965), and between 55 and 59 (992), with total population of 3,964.

The population with age-group 55 to 59 had male to female ratio of 1.19, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 65 to 69 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.85. The age-groups 55 to 59, below 4, 40 to 44, 15 to 19, 50 to 54, 5 to 9, 10 to 14, 45 to 49, 35 to 39 had majority of male population while age-groups 70 to 74, 30 to 34, 60 to 64, 25 to 29, above 75, 20 to 24, 65 to 69 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 70.23 % (59,833 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 25.30 % with total number of 21,558. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 4.47 % with total number of 3,807. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 29.77 with total number of 25,365

There were 26,590 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 6,172. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 232 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

Grade 1-12 Students & Schools

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 18,272 in Chandragiri Municipality with 9,104 (49.82%) of males and 9,168 (50.18%) females. There were total 78 schools. In average, 234 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Chandragiri Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Newar caste with total population of 24,884. There were as little as Kewat caste with population of as little as 11 in total. Top five castes of people in Chandragiri Municipality are Newar (24,884), Chhetri (19,929), Brahmin - Hill (13,198), Tamang (9,361) and Magar (5,150) with total population of 72,522, which forms 85.12 percent out of total population of 85,198 in Chandragiri Municipality.

Population by Disability

Out of total population of 85,198, there were total 968 (1.14%) disabled persons in Chandragiri Municipality with 516 (53.31%) males and 452 (46.69%) females. The physically disabled persons were 283, while mentally disabled people were 61 and intellectually disabled were 34.

Similarly, there were 250 people who were blind and 142 people were deaf, while 17 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 103 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 78 people had multiple disabilities.

Household Foundation

Out of total 20532 households in Chandragiri Municipality, there were 6,489 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 8,085 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 5,287 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 68houses were founded on wood.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 147 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 4,214 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 1,147 houses had roof of tile, 14,350 houses had RCC roofs, 29 houses had roof of woods while 2 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 436 out of 20,532 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 16,840 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 3,092 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

Utilities

In Chandragiri Municipality, there were total 13,804 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 170 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 2,651 houses had covered well while 224 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. With reference to source of fuel, 3,874 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 761 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 15,594 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (15), bio-gas (32), fuel electricity (11), etc.

Same as, total 19,975 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 297, while 6 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.97.

Facilities

out of 20,532 households in Chandragiri Municipality, 514 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 19,812 households reported of using at least one facility. According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 7,092 establishments in Chandragiri Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 26,043 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 15,599 and female engagement of 10,444 persons.In every business, there were an average of 3.67 people engaged with average males are 2.20 and females are 1.47.
