In 2017 election of Budhinanda Municipality (Bajura district), candidate Padam Kumar Giri of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,336 (48.13%) votes out of total votes of 6,931 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Janak Kumar Bohara of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,187 (31.04%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 408 (2.94) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Shristi Regmi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,308 (47.99%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Rita Devi Singh of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,180 (31.17%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 405 (2.94) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 152 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 95 (62.50%) males and 57 (37.50%) females. Moreover, there were total 36 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards.
